San Marcos Church
San Marcos Church is one of the most admired and photographed structures in the City of Gracias. The church is the official parroquial church of Gracias. The church was bult in the 1700s but the front had to be rebuilt after the 1915 eartquake.
In most colonial towns the church entrance faces the main plaza. In colonial times there were specific rules regarding the location and orientation of main buildings and churches. However San Marcos Church faces the west side of the City and its north wall faces the main plaza.
The Main Plaza of the city of Gracias is very unique because of the number of number of important colonial building that surround it and because of its big size.
